New Skoda Rapid 2020 is expected to have a starting price of around Rs. 9 lakhs. Rapid is a mid-size sedan, competing with the likes of Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and Volkswagen Vento.
Skoda Superb has got a facelift and price of the new model expected to start at around Rs. 28 lakhs.
Karoq is an all new SUV with that will be completely imported for sale in India. It's expected to have a starting price tag of around Rs. 21 lakhs. New Skoda Karoq will rival Volkswagen T-roc, Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India showcased these cars in India Auto Expo 2020 in January, but the launch had been delayed owning to the lockdown.
Skoda is preparing to launch three new vehicles for India on May 26. Zac Hollis, Director of Skoda Auto India took to Twitter to announce that the company will introduce the three vehicles through digital platform, and shared this teaser video of Virtual Launch.
Online bookings for all three vehicles have already started. On May 26, Skoda is expected to also announce the official prices of the cars. The new Skoda Rapid, Superb and Karoq have already been showcased in India at the Auto Expo earlier this year.
In April, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India had announced a support initiative for its struggling dealerships. As automotive showrooms were closed for almost two months, dealer partners were facing immense losses. In fact, certain dealerships were even on the verge of going out of business permanently. For its 80+ outlets across India, the company crafted a support package worth roughly Rs 60 crore to cover expenditures such as salaries and rent.
The Skoda Karoq is a mid-size SUV with 5-seat configuration, and is a segment below Kodiaq. Since it is going to be fully imported and likely to be offered in fully-loaded single spec variant, the price is expected to be more than ₹25 lakhs. The Karoq has proven its worth in the overseas markets and might be assembled locally in the future if the demands is high.
Skoda Karoq is a comfort, safety and convenience rich SUV with features such as nine airbags, Panaromic sunroof, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Virtual Cockpit fully digital instrument cluster, LED ambient lighting, 2-zone Climatronic automatic climate control, Stone Beige leather upholstery as well as 12-way electrically adjustable driver seat (featured with memory function).
Skoda Karoq has a 1.5-litre TSI-Evo petrol engine which produces 148 BHP of maximum power at 5,000-6,000 rpm and 250 Nm of peak torque at 1,500-3,500 rpm. A 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission is offered as a standard.The SUV has a top-speed of 202 km/hr.
Skoda Karoq rivals Volkswagen T-Roc, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson and Tata Harrier in India, and it has plenty in common, including the powertrain, with the recently launched Volkswagen T-Roc. Bookings for the Karoq can already be placed for an initial token of Rs. 50,000.
The new Skoda Rapid 1.0 TSI will come with a BS6 turbo-petrol engine, which is a completely new engine, to achieve the new BS 6 compliance. While earlier it used a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol as well as a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine, it now runs on a 1.0-litre TSI turbocharged three-cylinder petrol unit. The new 1 litre engine poutputs 108 BHP of maximum power and a peak torque of 175 Nm.
The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard for now, and the option of a 6-speed automatic transmission in higher variants will be provide later on.
The flagship Superb sedan is getting a nice facelift on the same day as the launch day of the new Rapid and new Karoq. The updated premium sedan made its India debut at the 2020 Auto Expo and it will be retailed in the luxury-oriented Laurin & Klement (L&K) and the hotter-looking Sportline trim. While the former will be made available in five colour options - Lava Blue, Moon White, Business Grey, Magic Black and Magnetic Brown, the latter will arrive in Race Blue, Moon White and Steel Grey.
The facelift version of the Skoda Superb sedan will come with several upgrades compared to its older versions. In exterior design, the facelift version will get a redesigned bumpers, narrower LED headlights, restyled front grille, and chrome accents. Inside, it gets many new features: a Virtual Cockpit fully digital instrument cluster with a 10.25-inch configurable display, wireless charging, improved cellular reception, puddle lamps with Skoda logo and 8 airbags for more safety, and upgraded touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
The price of the new Superb is expected to be higher than its previous generation which ranged between ₹26 lakh and ₹31 lakh. The 2020 Skoda Superb will likely be priced around Rs. 28 lakh to Rs. 33 lakh (ex-showroom). The facelifted Skoda Superb is powered by a new BS6 compliant 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor that produces impressive for 187BHP and 320Nm. It is paired with a seven-speed DCT. The Superb is considered a rational choice over an entry-level Audi or Mercedes product.
